Randoms – Food Rotations & My Reading List

Random #1: Starbucks morning
Oops… I spilled my coffee in my [new] truck this morning. Oh yeah, and then I realized I left my breakfast sitting on my counter at home.

I’m so glad Starbucks is there for my rescue!

Random #2: Pathetic Dog
Is this one of the most pathetic dog faces ever?

She has gotten used to getting roast beef in the morning (when I give her her Benadryl, I have to hide it in there) and this morning she didnt get any so she was pouting.

It’s pretty pathetic, but not quite as pathetic as this dog.

That is Torrance’s dad’s dog… in a cone…again. In the two years he has had her, she has been in a cone about 10 times because she is the most reckless/clumsiness dog ever.

Random #3: Food rotation
I know I have mentioned before how I go through phases with my food and rotate stuff in and out.

Well After a year off, these have made it back into my snack repertoire.

I used to be obsessed with these things, and then as usual, after eating them for a month straight, got sick of them.

Some other foods that have made it back into my rotation:

  • wheat thins (to eat with my cheese)
  • grapes
  • egg salad
  • rice (since I found a solution for not being able to cook it)

I have noticed recently that I have rotated out Luna bars and egg n jelly sandwiches. I guess I needed a break from them! They’ll be back.

Random #4: Hiking
I have been dying to do some hiking. There are so many amazing places around here that offer great trails with waterfalls, etc. I have been wanting to go before it gets too hot so we can bring Kona too.

Anyway, I am majorly looking forward to it and hoping the weather will cooperate (i.e. no thunderstorms or rain) this weekend.

Random #5: Upcoming reading list
For some reason I havent been able to sit down and read for a while but there is quite the arsenal of books sitting on my shelf that I have purchased and am dying to read. Summertime will be perfect for this, sitting out by the pool and such. So here is what I have waiting for me:

First book, I still need to finish my current Jen Lancaster (my most favorite author!) book that I’m reading because partway through is when I just stopped being in the reading mood. Also, I am a few books behind now since she is pumping them out like crazy now. Must read!

Next up will be Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential.

I read the first few (short) chapters and I’m in love. I like him a lot anyway (he is a chef, by the way), but I am attracted to this book because it really talks about working in the restaurant and all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes and after the restaurant is closed and the lifestyle. If you havent read my foodie section on the blog already, my parents owned a restaurant while I was growing up so I saw a lot of….interesting stuff – it is quite a lifestyle to say the least. So this book is super interesting to me because it is relatable.

After that will be No One Here Gets Out Alive the biography (well, one of many) of Jim Morrison from the band The Doors.

I have mentioned before my love for old/classic rock – but I really love reading old rockstar’s biographies. They are so interesting and scandalous and emotional and unbelievable. His I think will be especially interesting because he had a little extra dose of crazy. (If you ever watch the movie “The Doors” you will see he is a loon).

And lastly (and probably least haha), the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.

I know, I know…. I am definitely giving into the hype on this one. I’m not a romance novel steamy book kind of person but I cant help be attracted to the somewhat raunchiness of the story line for this. It has had a lot of mixed reviews, so the only way to see what it’s all about is read it myself right?!

Have a fabulous day… but first – tell me:

  • Ever read any of the books above? Favorite book genre?
My fav genre is biography or memoir type stuff – true stories.
  • What is a book that is on your current “want to read” list?
  • What foods have you recently rotated in and/or out of your usual rotation?
  • When you go hiking, if it is moderate (not too hard, but not super easy) do you wear a sports bra??

  1. I always wear a sports bra, just because I like them haha … I think they’re comfortable. :P

Foods that are ALWAYS in my diet: peanut butter and bananas. Foods that come in and out of rotation: cereal, oatmeal, and granola bars are just a few that I sometimes eat a lot of, and then other times I’m not interested in. :)

  2. I just cracked up seeing the pictures of the dogs!! They both look so pitiful and helpless! Jet constantly makes a sad face like his life is so horrible!

  3. I so wanted Sbux this morning. But I was bringing a cake in for a co-worker’s b-day. So I really didn’t have any hands. Lol. You have to try the chipotle laughing cow cheese mixed with salsa. It’s amazing. And I’d probably choose to wear a sports bra. I don’t like to sweat in normal ones. Lol. I’m so delicate.

  4. First..I had starbucks this morning as well and it was delic! Second..I love hiking too. I really love Hanging Rock State Park. Have you been there? Third.. I just finished the first book of Fifty Shades Trilogy and while at first I thought of heck no not interested..I have to admit..It’s really good. Mind you tho, I’m not into that type of lifestyle or the demeaning way the man talks to the woman in the book but..it was good enough I couldn’t lay the book down. I just did a book review on my site if you want to check it out. http://www.thenorthcarolinacowgirl.com/2012/fifty-shades-of-grey-book-review

  5. I’m in the middle of the first Fifty Shades book, not too shabby (though haven’t had a ton of time for reading lately.) That being said, it’s definitely not my normal style of book…. but, at this point, I’m not really sure what is. Macabre contemporary fiction, fantasy, and dystopian society studies? Those have been my favs as of late… it’s a hodge podge.

Sidenote: Egg salad is definitely a rotation food for me. It’s like I’m totally obsessed!!@#$^T OMG! EGG SALAD!! and then it drops off the face of the earth.

  6. Oh gosh those dog pictures made my morning! Love them. I rotate food all the time. Right now I’m really into egg sandwiches and smoothies for breakfast. For the longest time it was Oatmeal and yogurt and granola. So funny how that happens!

    April 27, 2012
    • oh yeah! I will be rotating smoothies back in for sure soon! i have been sorta pushing oatmeal out too i notice!

  7. I always wear a sports bra hiking…and I’m a total food rotater too. Right now I can’t get enough of avocados and chickpeas.

  8. I do the same thing with my food rotations. I obsess over something for a month or so and then get sick of it and go forever without it. I am currently all about Clif bars and cheese sticks. :-)

    April 28, 2012
  9. I know all about that pitiful dog face! I rotate oatmeal, bars, egg sandwiches, and salad beasts. I hope you had a great weekend!

  10. My husband and I were just down in NC visiting Chapel Hill and actually went on a couple of hikes. If you’re ever in the area, definitely try to go to Eno River State Park! It was a very nice hike and not too difficult. We brought our corgi and had no problems! It’s not SO AMAZING I would drive 2+ hours to hike it, but if you’re in the area is definitely a must do :)
