Fifty Shades of F’d Up
Well. Let me start out by saying I have some major reading ADD.
Remember how on my summer reading list I included Fifty Shades of Grey somewhat reluctantly? Mostly because I wanted to see what the hype was all about?
I’m sorry but a book about a virgin girl who is drawn to a hot, young, controlling billionaire who is into whips and chains and then turns the virgin girl into a freak nasty…. how can that not get your attention?
So, on Monday night, despite being in the middle of a different book that I was actually really enjoying (this is where the ADD comes in) my curiosity got the best of me and I downloaded the first book to the iPad (because I obviously couldn’t wait until the next day to actually go to the book store).
As of last night I am about 2/3 through it and I’m somewhat impressed.
I know a lot of people have criticized the actual writing, and I could see how they would, but honestly – I don’t even notice it because of the steaminess of the book. Christian Grey is pretty distracting. And even though you kind of don’t want to like him because of his controlling ways, you cant help it because the author gives you a good glimpse of how he is a good guy.
And the entire time I’ve been reading, I cant help but think of Bella & Edward. The clumsy, inexperienced girl. The mysterious hot guy, the random good guy friend of hers on the sideline trying to win her over. It’s all kind of there. Like an adult version of Twilight (minus the vampires). All the times you got frustrated reading Twilight because you wanted Edward to just ravish Bella right then and there and he doesn’t? That’s this, and I like it.
I cant help but think about a few things either….
Like how the hell the author comes up with this stuff. I mean, kind of makes you wonder right?
And how are they going to make this into a movie that is appropriate enough to not be rated X? Are they going to have to leave out some stuff? It just wouldn’t be the same if they did.
And lastly, I cant help but picture all these women in their mid 50’s sitting and reading this with their little cup of coffee, reading glasses, and pant suits blushing at Starbuck’s thinking “oh my!”
The only downfall? It has seriously cut into my blogging time. Hangin’ with Christian Grey has taken over my blogging time slightly.
Don’t worry, tomorrow will be back to usual delicious food, hard workouts, and brown dogs.
- Have you read it? What did you think?
- I’m dying to know, if you have no desire to read it – what turns you away from it? If you have already (or want to) read it, what makes you attracted to it?
- Since the movie is in the works, what actor would you like to see cast as Christian Grey? What actress as Ana?
When she talks about Christian’s hair in the book, I cant help but picture the delicious Bradley Cooper. I honestly don’t know who would be good as Ana….anyone would be better than Kristen Stewart.
