Yes. It is true. I was sneaky.
Part of my MIA-ness has been due to a quick trip back to Alaska, that on top of our crazy busy month in July, I planned anyway.
So last Tuesday, we packed up, hopped on the plane, traveled for 10 hours and arrived in good ol’ AK.
Kidding guys… it is summer. I laugh because one of the most common questions I get is: “isnt there snow there all year round?”
It looked more like this:
Yep, sunny and green!
I mentioned a few weeks back that Torrance would be heading to Alaska for his dad’s wedding….
Well, I sneakily booked a ticket for myself as well and decided I would surprise some of my friends up there who thought I wasn’t coming (friends who read the blog… thus why I didn’t mention it).
The trip was a whirlwind, considering we arrived late Tuesday night and left Sunday night, making it a total of 5 days that we were there. That is most certainly not enough time to see everyone we wanted to see!
Our time was spent on wedding festivities and visiting some family for the most part.
My parents are actually in Alaska right now for the summer as well so we were able to see them one day and for old time’s sake, went or a boat ride on the river.
(My parents dog, Ruger)
We didn’t get to spend a lot of time with them which was okay because they are actually going to come down here to NC and spend some time with us on their way back home to Belize!
I have to say, going back for a visit was kind of weird. Alaska is so unique and I definitely have learned to appreciate some things about my new surroundings (i.e. I forgot how expensive everything is up there!)
I had planned on blogging, but I didn’t have much access to internet or time to go sit somewhere and use WiFi – but I kind of enjoyed disconnecting! We didn’t even have cell service most of the time at Torrance’s dad’s house (where we stayed)!
So, besides visiting with a few friends and family, we got to go out and watch Torrance’s dad do some racing. He recently started racing Legend cars, and it was pretty fun to watch!
Except, it was two days before the wedding, so we (meaning the soon to be bridge and myself) were a little on edge about the groom getting hurt…)
Luckily, it is pretty mellow and no injuries were sustained by any of the racers
And the main event?
The wedding on Saturday of course!
Don’t worry, there was a professional photographer there.
I love that Torrance’s sister was one of the “groomsmen” too. I thought her dress matched perfectly with the guys’ suits!
It was definitely a blast and the weather was awesome which was great, because I guess it rained for two weeks before we got there! Maybe we brought the sun with us!
Oh, and want to hear something funny?
Torrance and I have been together for 9 1/2 years and this was the first time I have ever seen him in a suit.
Same goes for his dad!
They clean up pretty good!
Oh and guess what happened?
I caught the bouquet and he caught the garter…. I say someone rigged it because we got the “when are you guys getting married?” questions all. night. long. before that.
Overall, it was an awesome trip! I wish it could have been longer but we will just have to go back for another visit sometime soon and I’m glad we were able to be there for his dad’s wedding!
It always feels good to be back home though, but that also means…. back to work!
I am also looking forward to getting back to training this month for sure….and I have some recipes to share coming up!
Have a great Tuesday!
- Last trip you went on?
- If you have moved away from the city/state where you grew up, when you went back did it seem really different?
