Random Friday: Instagram, Blogging, Confessions, & Pinterest

It’s random Friday in a picture less way.

I havent done a random Friday in forever.. All these thoughts are building up, so let’s get to it shall we? (Dont worry, I will only subject you to a half of my thoughts today)

Random #1: I finally started using Instagram.
Isnt it ironic that I start with saying I started using an app/social media program that involves taking lots of pictures when I just said I have a whole post with no pictures for you guys? Ha!

Anyway, I am behind the times, duh. But seriously… I never sat down to figure it out. I kind of like it now. It doesnt have all the extra crap that Facebook and Twitter does and that makes it much simpler. Just pictures.

If you are wondering, I’m @andreaoutloud (of course).

Random #2: Non-posting guilt
I have noticed about 90% of the bloggers I follow regularly have posted something in the last month or 2 about how they have been busy and have cut back on blogging, at least for a while (and I myself have too). I just wanted to say, I dont think anyone needs to feel guilty about that. Though as a reader I like to read daily posts [sometimes], I have been busy too and it has been easier for me to catch up on everything when it is just a few a week.

Bottom line, I dont think we need to feel guilty about this. I mean I dont (because, well I do what I want! kidding), but it sounds like some bloggers do.

Random #3: Sans roommate
I dont think I have mentioned this on the blog… but remember how we had a roommate for a few months? A friend that came to stay with us and decided he would stay in NC? Well earlier this month he decided he was homesick. This was part of the reason we went up to a 2 bedroom apartment at the end of July. But now that he is gone I am secretly kind of enjoying it…especially all the extra room (and having a spare bedroom!)

I am decking out his spare bedroom in a purple and pink giraffe theme so that he will never want to come back. KIDDING! that would be hanus. I am more of a “natural tones” type decorator.

Random #4: Confession
I dont want to make money from blogging.

I started blogging as a hobby because it is fun. I mean extra money is always nice, but blogging isnt really a way I want to do it and I sort of want to keep my blog ad-free and dont want to do a lot of sponsored posts. I mean I wouldnt mind doing some and getting some free stuff, or doing some kind of giveaway if it is something I like though. But it is not something I’m really all that interested in.

And just to be clear, if you make money from blogging and if you do sponsored blog posts I think it is awesome and trust me, I will still read them! It just isnt for me is all I’m saying :)

Random #5: While we are confessing….
Did I ever tell you guys that I dont have my ears pierced? I know, how weird of me. This isnt for any religious reason. Or really any reason at all, I just never got around to it. And I always forget.

Random #6: I love, love, love working out
I dont think this is really new. I mean I have always liked it, but now that I have been on a regular training program for a while and have gotten to know my body more as far as balancing eating/fitness goes, I really love working out. I love how it makes me feel, how it makes me sleep better, and yes, I love all the fun workout gear (even though I dont wear anything exciting except for Torrance’s old Tshirts that I shrunk on purpose so that I can wear them to workout in)

Random #7: Pinterest has adverse effects on me
People say how “oh Pinterest helps bring out my creative side” or “it makes me want to do crafty things” or even “OMG it gives me so many good wedding ideas!”

NOT ME. It makes me the opposite. It reminds me how lazy and uncreative I am and that I am okay with that because if I were crafty, I would feel overwhelmed by crafts to do now that Pinterest is here. Also, it makes me want to plan a wedding even less than I already do.

I mean dont get me wrong, I love to pin stuff and I definitely get some good ideas, but I feel like I have more freedom in doing so knowing that I will never feel obligated to use that pin.

Though, I must say I have cooked/baked/used 70% of the food stuff I’ve pinned! I wont lie, I am sort of proud of that.

My priorities may need some adjustment. It is true… I will probably not be refinishing any old armoires or repurposing old chairs anytime soon though.

Okay, okay, that’s all I got – have a great weekend!

  • Are you on Instagram? Please share – I need more people to follow so it is more fun for me!
  • Give me a confession. (you will feel better, promise!)
  • How old were you when you first got your ears pierced?

  1. I feel the same way as you about blogging, I post when I can, but will never apologize for being too busy or out enjoying life to much to post. Some weeks I’ll post every night, then other times it may be once a week.
I’m also not in it for the money, and that makes me so happy! Leaves me the freedom to post what I want, when I want and no kissing up to companies!!!!

I’m glad to hear you got them done at 18! I don’t feel as bad… Though I should probably just do it soon!

  3. I totally agree with you and have noticed the same trend of apologizing in the past. When I wrote my post I struggled with it b/c I didn’t want it to come off as an apology, rather more of an explanation. But then I also thought, I don’t really need to explain myself either, but I know people look forward to reading my silly little thoughts so I thought it would be nice to at least let them know whats going on and why my cadence would be changing. Some people wouldn’t care and others would. I 100% agree with you on the fact that sometimes I really enjoy when people post LESS b/c then I have more time to enjoy the posts that they do put up. Sometimes when I see my reader and someone has like 4 posts from the last day, its stressful! I want to read but don’t always have the time. So I agree, sometimes less is more! :) HA!
I’m not really interested in making money from blogging either. I would love some free stuff from time to time to review and stuff but it would have to be products that I already love.

Not going to confess right now…
But I made a big fat lie to my brother and confessed later that I did not tell the truth. We ended up having a good conversation.

I totally feel the same about Pinterest! It drives me insane because I know I should feel creative, but instead I feel like it’s making me be Suzy Homemaker.

  6. I try not to feel guilty about the non-posting because you are right! It’s summer, everyone is busy, and who has time?! I have been a big time blog reader slacker.

You are going to have to tell me your username on Instagram so I can stalk you :)

  7. Confession: I’ve seen every episode of Scooby Doo ever made. Including movies and spinoffs.
You can follow me on Instagram! I just got it not that long ago. I’m carolinedb. Oh, and I begged and pleaded until my mom let me get my ears pierced at 8.
