Just Playing Catch Up & Kona’s Latest Veterinary Adventures
These last couple of weeks have been some stressful ones I must say.
Luckily I had this weekend to sort of restart and finally feel like things will fall back into a routine and be normal (at least for a bit).
But let’s do a bit of a recap shall we?
Amidst all of our mini-trips and moving grandma from FL, we got some bad news in between – including news that a very good friend of ours took his own life, and also Torrance’s grandpa back in Alaska passed away. On top of that, his grandma in Alaska (who is married to his grandpa who just passed, not the one we just moved ) just got diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
And then, as many of you saw on my Instagram if you follow (@andreaoutloud), we had a scare with miss Kona.
I will just give you the short version of that – basically she went in for a routine update on her shots and I had them check a lump on her chest. She has some other lumps and bumps which is typical as dogs get older as you probably know, and they have never really been an issue but I always have them check just in case!
And this lump on her chest was fine but they decided they want to remove it since it has grown – and also will just remove the other smaller ones with it as a precaution, so before scheduling the surgery for that they do blood work to make sure everything is safe to do surgery. So the next day when they got those results back they called because they found some really abnormal liver counts that possibly pointed at a mass in her liver (which would mean cancer).
Basically I was a hot mess the day between getting that potential news and bringing her in for the Xray and Ultra sound to confirm what was going on. THANKFULLY no mass, which led them to running other tests and come to find out she has Cushing’s Disease (you can read more about Cushings here). Which, unfortunately it is a chronic illness but it is manageable with medicine for the most part (and in her case luckily), so I will just be happy that it is the lesser of two evils – obviously better than her having cancer.
So, with that being said, she is on a supplement for another week to help get her liver counts back down so they can safely do her original surgery soon hopefully. And then after she recovers from the surgery, she will start her meds for the Cushings.
Rest assured, overall she has been perfectly fine and her old self, so no signs she is suffering or anything. Honestly, wouldnt have even known anything was going on. I think that is why all of this was scarier because it was all a big surprise, not like I thought something was wrong. Though for the last few months she has had some of the Cushings symptoms but I didnt think much of them since it was summer and she is getting older – like increased drinking of water (and peeing), and excessive panting.
So, besides all of that – I’m just trying to get things back to normal up in here.
This thing is the bomb. Not even kidding.
I’m a technology person usually, but I figured I’d give this a whirl.
I also think it is hilarious that when I posted it on Instagram I got some comments from some of you crazies thinking it was a wedding planner book. Which I could see why now, since it says “Torrance&Andrea” on the cover. But I assure you, I will not be having a wedding where I will even need a planner (haha).
Which randomly reminds me of my recent favorite #whatshouldwecallme:

Me and my boyfriend:
Sorry – short attention span.
Anyway, I will do another detailed post later on after I have had a little longer to utilize the planner and I’ll show how I use it and some of the features, etc for those of you who may be interested. (It is funny to think that I will be showing people how I “organize” something – I am not the epitome of organized).
Also, all you iPhoners out there… what do you think of the iOS7 update? If you did it?
I like it honestly. Took me a day or two to get used to it but its fun to have something different.
Also, if it sucks your battery dry (like it did mine) make sure you turn off the ‘background app refresh’ feature. It helps tremendously. (Under settings and then general).
Okay, that’s all I got for now. I’ll be back soon. Promise this time.
- If you have an iPhone and did the iOS7 update – what do you think?
- Do you use any type of planner/organizer?
